The #BigSummerRead is on again for 2025
Get ready for a summer of great reading and great prizes!
Summer is the perfect time for children to indulge in books and stories and reading for pleasure. The Big Summer Read has been developed by Public Libraries Victoria in a joint effort to raise awareness of the benefits of reading over summer and to ensure Victorian children have access to resources proven to slow the slide. Together we are aiming to engage 10,000 children in the program!
How to Take Part
Step 1: Register
- Visit the ReadBooks website
- Click "Join now" (top right)
- Register parent/guardian first, then add any children who would like to participate
Prefer paper?
Ask at any branch for a printed Reading Log instead of registering online.
Step 2: Log your reading
Track your reading between 1 December 2025 and 31 January 2026 to enter the major prize draws.
Read any type of book — picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, audiobooks and more.
You can complete the challenge in one of two ways:
Option A: Online via ReadBooks
- Log at least five days of reading and/or five books titles read.
- You can also complete fun challenges and earn badges as you log your reading.
Option B: Printed log sheet
- Log at least five days of reading and/or five books.
- Return your completed log sheet to any library branch.
Step 3: Go into the major prize draw for your chance to win!
To qualify for statewide, national, and Whitehorse Manningham Libraries prizes, participants must complete at least five books or five reading days.
For every additional five books or five reading days logged, you earn one extra entry into the prize draw.
Prizes include:
Whitehorse Manningham Libraries prizes
Vouchers from MoPA, Smiggle, Readings, Timezone, and The Kids’ Bookshop
Statewide Prizes
Book packs and a Zoos Victoria Family Membership, offered across four age categories
National Prizes
Prizes include a picture book bundle (0–4 years), a books and activity pack (5–8 years), Bluetooth headphones (9–12 years), and a Kobo eReader (13–18 years).
Major prize winners must be able to collect their prizes from a Whitehorse Manningham Libraries branch.
Big Summer Read Launch
Today’s the day! Come into any branch, scan the QR code at our special sign-up table, or grab a paper log-sheet to record the books/days you read over summer. Everyone will get a small prize just for joining up!

Big Summer Read Prize Party
It’s double the excitement: first we will be drawing the major prizes for the Big Summer Read winners, and then we will be entertained by the hilarious and talented Tim Mason! We’ll finish with extra door prizes, so make sure you’re there to join in the fun!
